Correction(s) for my last post
Hello, fellow reader [insert wave] ๐
If I'm being brutally honest my last post sucked. I missed the whole point of the blog by omitting the actual reason why I like to travel. Didn't want to feel vulnerable but that how you get the best content based on things I've observed & read. Got to let people know who you are in order to get noticed. People need to be able to relate to you in order to make a significant connection. So this is me opening up. Even though I didn't realise it until much older (me writing this post) the real sense for adventure actually occurred when I got on a plane for the first time. The trill of going to a an unknown place & packing everything into a suitcase, with that sense of wonder has been what I've been chasing ever since I've experienced it. (in retrospect) Like many people who are immigrants there's some adjusting to the new culture & surroundings. In order to emerge yourself into a new place you try to make friends. As a little kid the easiest way to make new friendships is to join clubs & play sports. So I joined the boy scouts & played baseball. (I eventually became an eagle scout) If you don't know what the boy scouts is its an organisation that teaches young men basic survival skills. For example how to tie knots, make fire, forge for food, how to fold a flag, tie a tie, keep you uniform clean, the importance of values, charity, community service, cook etc... You get the point, fortunately I had the privilege of having a group of devoted parents that were willing to take a weekend off to go camping and teach us these skills, sometimes even learning the activities with us. Spent a ton of time doing that, so the stuff I was seeing on tv by watching Bear Grylls or man vs wild was actually applicable. Obviously not that extreme of an extent but the basics can be applied the same.
Didn't do much travelling as kid other than visiting family across a few neighbouring states didn't get outside of the U.S. much. Went to the Dominican Republic (place of origin) once as a little kid and once as an adult after I graduated high school. Much exploring wasn't done, just visiting family & beaches. That 'real' family vacation jaja. Was going to a local college in New York & had a job to pay for school but was not having fun going to university while working so I quit! Decided I wanted to get school for free & the opportunity to travel again so I joined the military. Well I thought they were going to send me to the sandbox but they sent me to japan instead. (No complaints there) All those feeling I had expressed earlier were fired up once again. This is the place were I got into photography, wanted to share everything I was seeing & experiencing. (regret deleting instagram but ohwell). Visited a few countries while I was out there. (should have visited more) This was just confirming my original feelings.
Besides my primal instinct to want to learn about cultures & people first hand, there's almost dark cogitation to it. Travelling is my escape from life, well at least that's how its left from the most recent trip. Most people turn to alcohol or drugs or any other vice that can give them that release from life; mine just happens to come from hopping on a plane, boat, car etc.. On my solo travels is where I've learned a ton about myself. Maybe its the limited communications or the full emergence in the activity that I'm doing but I personally enjoy that aspect of it. Highly recommend everyone take a trip by themselves to a place you've never been before, granted that having group creates an interesting dynamics & its a shared experience you can talk with the group for the rest of your life. Forever linked experience with that being said a solo trip forces you to be outgoing, you really have to put yourself out there to make the unique memories. (at least that was my deduction)
In closing, I'm chasing the feeling of new experiences & putting myself in unfamiliar surroundings figuring out myself by way of challenge. A fan of being disconnected from everyday life & even more excited to be in a distant land (the escape factor). All the other stuff I said about visiting every country & documenting it still holds true.
